CDOT Hires New Chief Engineer

July 8, 2014 - Statewide Transportation Plan - Denver, Colorado—Josh Laipply, who joined CDOT in 2012 as Bridge Design & Management Branch Manager, has been appointed CDOT Transportation Program Director and Chief Engineer.

The announcement was made by CDOT Executive Director Don Hunt during the Colorado Transportation Commission meeting in Denver on June 19.

Laipply succeeds Tim Harris, who retired in December, 2013.

As Chief Engineer, Laipply will be responsible for integrated transportation program development functions including planning, engineering, design, and construction.  The Division of Transportation Development, the Division of Transit & Rail, the Office of Program Management, the Office of Major Project Development, and Project Support will all report to him.  Additionally, Lapply will oversee all project development and delivery functions in CDOT’s five regions around the state, control engineering and construction contracts, and manage resulting claims and liabilities.

Laipply is a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.  He worked extensively in the private sector and gained experience on projects that included I-335 in Chicago, IL; SR 202 widening in the Phoenix, AZ, area; Post Boulevard Development in Avon, CO; Denver Union Station; and RTD Light Rail Maintenance Facility Improvements at Elati and Mariposa in Denver.  As an employee of AECOM, Inc., he worked with CDOT from 2010-12 on the Faster/Bridge Enterprise project.  Laipply also comes from a multi-generation CDOH/CDOT family.  His father, the late Larry Laipply, worked in Region 6 engineering.

Laipply begins work on July 14, 2014.
