Installation of New Overhead Signage in Glenwood Canyon To begin on Wednesday Night

EAGLE/GARFIELD COUNTIES —New and improved overhead signs are scheduled to be installed in Glenwood Canyon this week.  The first sign will be hung over the Hanging Lake Tunnel portal and will be installed on Wednesday and Thursday, August 13-14.  The next three signs are scheduled for the nights of August 19-21 and are located between mile markers 125-126. The work is scheduled to begin around 9:00 p.m. when traffic volumes are lower.

Glaser Electric Company, the contractor for this project, will be required to close the right lane westbound on I-70 in Glenwood Canyon for safety measures during the installation process. The contractor will be staging equipment in the left lane westbound which is already a closed lane for an existing resurfacing project that is taking place in the canyon.  Flaggers and traffic control will be in place.  The old sign will be removed the first night and replaced with the new sign, the second night, electrical work will be completed.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: Delays could be expected from 45 minutes to an hour.  The contractor would then be required to clear the queue of any vehicles that were stopped before being able to shut the lanes down again.   Please Slow for the Cone Zone.
