Temporary closure of westbound US 6 off-ramp to Lowell/Perry highlights a busy Sept. 8 on US 6

September 5, 2014 - Metro Denver Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – Beginning at about 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, crews will temporarily close the westbound US 6 off-ramp to Lowell Boulevard and Perry Street as part of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) US 6 Bridges Design Build Project.

The ramp is scheduled to re-open to the traveling public in early December.

“This temporary ramp closure will allow crews to safely complete roadwork that includes widening, repaving and re-striping the north half of US 6 as we prepare the area for the next phase of the project,” said Kevin Sullivan, CDOT Project Director. “We appreciate the patience and support of the local community and driving public as we perform this critical project work.”

Following an extensive public outreach process earlier this year, CDOT has decided to keep this ramp open after completing the project in fall 2015. The attached map details the final configuration and anticipated signage placement for access to the ramp once the project is finished.

People traveling west on US 6 who want to use the off-ramp to Lowell/Perry will need to exit the highway further east near the S. Platte River. Commuters will follow the extended ramp lane, called a collector-distributor (CD) road, which will run parallel to the highway.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: During the temporary closure of the westbound US 6 off-ramp to Lowell/Perry, commuters should exit at Federal Boulevard or Sheridan Boulevard to access the surrounding neighborhoods.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for August 2015.

During construction, commuters might want to consider alternative modes of transportation to help ease the impacts of the project. This could include using the Regional Transportation District’s West Rail Line or bus service or taking advantage of carpool/vanpool options. For information on RTD services, call 303-299-6000.
