US 6 Chip Seal Project in Glenwood Springs to Start Next Week

September 10, 2014 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - GARFIELD COUNTY-The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin a chip seal project on US 6 in Glenwood Springs from Devereux Road to Hanging Lake Inn on Tuesday, September 16.

Work will run from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on both days and westbound and eastbound lanes will be impacted. The project is starting at this time each day in an effort to let any commuter and school traffic through.

On Wednesday, September 17, the project will continue west from the Hanging Lake Inn to Center Drive.   Some night work will take place from September 15-17 to prepare the road for chip sealing the next day.

On Tuesday, September 23, crews will go back over the project applying a fog coat which is a thin layer of asphalt that assists in finishing the road with a smooth surface.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: Motorists will be escorted through the one-lane alternating traffic by a pilot car.  Speeds will be set at 25 mph through the work zone.  Variable messaging boards will be set-up in advance of the project to alert motorists.  Business access will remain open each day with 10-15 minute delays expected as the project passes through.
