CDOT Rehabilitating Bridge on Westbound I-70 at 32nd Avenue

December 3, 2014 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will perform an emergency bridge rehabilitation on westbound I-70 at 32nd Avenue, following a similar rehab that occurred on the eastbound structure in the same location before Thanksgiving.

CDOT is accelerating a larger $1.9 million bridge rehab project that was slated to begin in spring of 2015. The emergency bridge rehab will ultimately extend the life of the structure for 10-15 years.

“We know these emergency bridge repairs are happening during a busy travel time over the holiday season and we’re focused on ensuring our work accommodates for that,” said Tony DeVito, CDOT Region Transportation Director. “To that end, we’ve analyzed traffic counts and know we will have the least impact on traffic if we complete the work during the week instead of on weekends. This way, motorists can do holiday shopping and enjoy recreation in the mountains without worrying about construction in the area.”

Work begins at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 as crews work around the clock until Noon on Friday, Dec. 12. Work will pause for the weekend and resume at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14 through Noon on Friday, Dec. 19. During working hours, there will be a double lane closure on westbound I-70 at 32nd Avenue. When work pauses over the weekend, all travel lanes will be open so motorists can easily access area shopping and activities, as well as get to the mountains for recreation.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

  • For alternative routes around the lane closures, westbound I-70 motorists are encouraged to take State Highway 58 to eastbound 6th Avenue back to westbound I-70.  Additional options include westbound 6th Avenue and Colfax Avenue.
  • The westbound I-70 Exit to 32nd Avenue will remain accessible during the work.

CDOT and its contractor ABCO remind motorists to drive slow through the cone zone!
