CDOT & Town of Antonito Partner on Major Drainage Improvements and Concrete Reconstruction through Town

February 19, 2015 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Antonito, CO – The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Concrete Works of Colorado (CWC) will begin a concrete reconstruction project on US Highway 285 through Antonito on Tuesday, February 24.

The project will address subgrade and roadway surface damage between 2nd and 12th avenues, where heavy truck traffic exists, and make major storm/sewer system upgrades. The work, contracted to CWC for $7.8 million, is partially funded through a RAMP* partnership between CDOT and the Town.

“This is the second RAMP partnership project to get underway in our region,” CDOT Region 5 Transportation Director Kerrie Neet said. “We are very appreciative of the coordination and cost-sharing with the Town of Antonito in getting these major drainage and roadway upgrades completed.”

Replacement of the town’s drainage system will happen concurrently with the roadway reconstruction. The upgrades to the storm/sewer system will extend beyond US 285 on East 8th Avenue/County Road G with a 60-inch conduit, which will drain to a newly built retention pond located east of State Street. Crews will also complete sidewalk improvements north of East 8th Avenue.

“On behalf of the Town of Antonito, I am excited to see this project, which has been in a planning and designing stage for a few years, move forward,” Town Administrator Rossi Duran said. “I am honored to work in conjunction with CDOT, general contractor and subcontractors. It is a big project and it’s going to take a lot of coordination to successfully complete it.”

PROJECT SCHEDULE & IMPACTS - Work is anticipated to begin this week, and the scheduled completion date is mid- to late October, 2015. Through the project’s duration, work hours are expected to be from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some weekend work possible. Motorists can expect some lane closures through town and possible temporary detours. Further information about project impacts will be sent at a later date; those interested in receiving these updates are encouraged to sign up for email notices (see below).
