Emergency Road Work on I-70 Mountain Corridor Requires Lane Closures Tomorrow

March 9, 2015 - Central/Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Clear Creek County– On Tuesday, March 10 the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin emergency roadway repair work on eastbound and westbound I-70 at mile marker 216 near the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels.

The roadway on both sides of the bridge over US 6 to Loveland Pass has been ground down leaving a large bump over the bridge expansion joints. Crews will mill the asphalt on either side of the expansion joints and patch them with temporary asphalt.

"While we know this emergency work will cause an inconvenience to motorists, we cannot compromise the safety of drivers along this busy corridor by waiting to do this repair," said Tony DeVito, CDOT Region 1 Transportation Director. "Our team will return this summer to complete a permanent fix to the roadway in this area."

Lane closures will begin tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. on eastbound I-70 with one lane of traffic in each direction remaining open during the operation. Crews will work on eastbound I-70 one lane at a time before moving over to do the same work on westbound I-70. Crews will work until dark on Tuesday, March 10, and may return on Wednesday, March 11, to finish work on westbound I-70.
