TRAVEL ADVISORY: Glenwood Canyon bike path open

March 26, 2015 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - EAGLE/GARFIELD COUNTIES – Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) crews have completed the necessary maintenance required to get the Glenwood Canyon bike path open.

Crews were out this week trimming trees, patching holes and sweeping the path.  Weather permitting, the path will be open for the season but CDOT crews will be monitoring the path for safety as spring run-off begins.

“Our goal is to be sure we are providing a safe environment for bicyclists and pedestrians on the trail,” said Adonna McDade-Ward , CDOT Transportation Maintenance Supervisor.  “Weather permitting we will keep the path open, however as temperatures rise you may see the water levels increase and that would require us to close the path.  We also close the path if a late season storm event occurs as we don’t want to risk someone being on the path when our plows come through pushing snow and ice that can end up on the path below,” she stated.

In order to maintain pathway safety, CDOT reminds cyclists and pedestrians to please obey all warning and closure signs.  Cooperation from all users is greatly appreciated.  To check on status of the bike path please visit www.cotrip.org  and click on the Road Conditions tab.  Updates are also available via Twitter @coloradodot and be sure to “Like” our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/coloradodot
