Work Progressing on US Highway 285 in the Town of Antonito

March 17, 2015 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Traffic Impacts Minimal During Initial Phase.

Antonito, CO – The concrete reconstruction project on US 285 in the town of Antonito is approximately one month underway. Correcting subgrade and roadway surface damage between 2nd and 12th avenues while concurrently improving drainage is the goal. The project is slated for completion in mid-fall and is partially funded through a RAMP* partnership between the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Town.

Currently, CDOT and contractor Concrete Works of Colorado (awarded a $7.8 million contract) are finalizing the retention pond located on East 8th Avenue/County Road G. Work on the storm sewer outfall along East 8th Avenue is anticipated to begin this week with a 60-inch conduit, which will drain to the newly built retention pond. Travelers should expect a shoulder closure and possibly one lane of traffic in the area where the work is taking place.

Please see the attached diagram for information on the first phase of construction.

PROJECT SCHEDULE & IMPACTS - Throughout the project’s duration, work hours are expected to be from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some weekend work possible. Motorists can expect some lane closures through town and possible temporary detours. Further information about project impacts will be sent at a later date; those interested in receiving these updates are encouraged to sign up for email notices (see below).

HOW TO GET PROJECT INFORMATION
The best way to stay up-to-date on project progress and impacts is to sign up for email updates. Please contact us at [email protected] to be included on the update list (title your email “Antonito Improvements”), or call the project hotline at 970-946-2834 and provide your email address. You can also visit CDOT’s website and see the lane closure reports at: www.codot.gov/travel/scheduled-lane-closures.html.

*This state-local partnership project will receive funding from RAMP, Responsible Acceleration of Maintenance and Partnerships towards the approximately $2.7 million in drainage improvements. RAMP is better coordinating project expenditures and available funding. Under the RAMP program, CDOT will fund multi-year and partnership projects based on year of expenditure, rather than saving for the full amount of a project before construction begins.
