RAMP Funding Accelerates Bridge Maintenance Project in CDOT Region 5

April 10, 2015 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - CDOT is beginning a project in Region 5 spanning Archuleta, Dolores and La Plata Counties to conduct bridge deck repairs on multiple bridges, install waterproofing membrane, replace expansion devices, and resurface and re-stripe the roadway over those bridges.

SW COLORADO – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is beginning a project in Region 5 spanning Archuleta, Dolores and La Plata Counties to conduct bridge deck repairs on multiple bridges, install waterproofing membrane, replace expansion devices, and resurface and re-stripe the roadway over those bridges. GA Western Construction Co., is the contractor on this $2 million project, which funded through CDOT’s RAMP* program.

Work will begin on Monday, April 13, 2015, and is expected to last until December, 2015. The work is expected to progress on the following schedule (please note, this schedule is likely to vary somewhat based on work items and/or weather impacts):

APRIL 13- JUNE 1:  Work will be underway concurrently on these structure:

  • M-01-C on US 491 in Dove Creek at mile point (MP) 60.9

  • O-05-AW on US 550 north of Hermosa at MP 36.62.

  • P-07-A on US 160 between Bayfield and Pagosa Springs over the Piedra River (MP 121.32)

(Only preliminary environmental will be underway on this structure, April 13 and 14; maintenance work is not expected to begin until June, see below).

JUNE 1 – SEPT. 1:  Work will be underway concurrently on these structure:

  • P-07-A on US 160 between Bayfield and Pagosa Springs over the Piedra River (MP 121.32)

  • P-07-B on US 160 between Bayfield and Pagosa Springs over Devil Creek (MP 124.9).

SEPT. 1 – DEC. 1:  Work will be underway concurrently on these structures

  • P-05-R on SH 172 (MP 19.49) over the Florida River north of Ignacio

  • P-06-D on US 160 over the Los Pinos River, at the west edge of Bayfield (MP 102.4).

TRAVEL IMPACTS/WIDE LOAD RESTRICTIONS - Normal working hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays. In special cases, these hours may be extended. Weekend work may also occur, if a need is determined. There will be single-lane closures (with alternating traffic at some locations) and lane shifts throughout the course of the project. The speed limit will be reduced during working hours to 35 mph. Wide loads will be restrictions are likely at all locations on US 160 during working hours. Truckers should check restrictions on CDOT’s traveler information web site at http://www.cotrip.org/truckers.htm. There will be no wide load restrictions at the Ignacio, Dove Creek and Hermosa locations.

*This bridge maintenance project will receive funding from RAMP, Responsible Acceleration of Maintenance and Partnerships. RAMP is better coordinating project expenditures and available funding. Under the RAMP program, CDOT will fund multi-year and partnership projects based on year of expenditure, rather than saving for the full amount of a project before construction begins.
