US 550 to Remain Closed This Afternoon for Accident Vehicle Recover

OURAY COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation closed US 550 Red Mountain Pass this morning at 8:30 a.m. to enable Ouray County Mtn. Rescue to recover a body from the canyon floor at mile point 89.1 (4 miles south of Ouray). The public information officer for Ouray County is Marti Whitmore (970) 626-3302.

Now (12:30 p.m.), the Colorado State Patrol is mobilizing a towing company to recover the vehicle. There is no estimated time for a reopening of the roadway; as soon as this is known, CDOT will post the information at www.cotrip.org
