CDOT Begins Resurfacing, Bridge & Safety Upgrades on US 50 East Monarch Pass

May 5, 2015 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - GUNNISON/CHAFFEE COUNTIES – On Thursday, May 7, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin work to improve the US 50 on the east side of Monarch Pass.
Specifically, the work zone lies between mile point 199.8 (at the summit) and extents east to Maysville (MP 209.6, about six miles west of the US 285 junction in Poncha Springs).

The project, contracted to A&S Construction of Canon City $4.28 million, will include roadway resurfacing, construction of an eastbound, uphill slow vehicle pull-out (MP 206.5), bridge deck maintenance (MP 209 over Fox Creek), drainage improvements and signing, guardrail and striping. Work is scheduled for completion in mid-August.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., through the project’s completion in mid-August, motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic and reduced speed limit of 40 MPH throughout the project, with possible reduction in speed to 25 MPH at the bridge. Bridge work is scheduled to run until mid-June; during this time, a 12-foot width restriction will be in place at the bridge structure.
