Colorado’s Road Health Summit to Focus on Safety

June 2, 2015 - Traffic Safety - Older Drivers, Distracted Driving, and Marijuana Focus of Three Day Conference.

STATEWIDE — Traffic safety advocates across Colorado will be gathering tomorrow in Keystone, CO for the first-ever Improving Colorado’s Road Health Summit. A joint effort between the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), the three day conference focuses on four topics:

  • Older drivers
  • Distracted driving
  • Marijuana impairment
  • Evidence-based motor vehicle policies    

“This conference will allow stakeholders across the state to come together to discuss and work on solutions to current and emerging traffic safety issues affecting Colorado,” said Carol Gould, Highway Safety Manager at CDOT.

On Wednesday the conference will feature remarks by Bill R. Watada, NHTSA Regional Administrator, Michael P. Lewis, CDOT Deputy Executive Director, and Larry Wolk, CDPHE Executive Director.  Thursday will feature presentations on older drivers and cognitive distractions.Friday will feature a teen driving presentation along with a dynamic panel of experts to discuss marijuana impaired driving.  

Participants will have the opportunity to hear various presentations, participate in interactive panels and discuss evidence-based policies to improve Colorado’s road health.  Over 160 traffic safety partners from across Colorado plan to attend.
