Delays expected on I-70 in De Beque Canyon for power line repair

June 4, 2015 - TRAVEL ALERT - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Work to begin late Friday afternoon through the weekend.

MESA COUNTY-Contractors for Xcel Energy will be working to restring several power lines on I-70 in De Beque Canyon at Exit 49.  The seven downed power lines were damaged by a jet that was flying through the canyon last Thursday. Several vehicles were damaged in the incident but no injuries were reported. Power to tunnel lights, variable message boards and the Union Pacific railroad was impacted.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:  Crews will begin work on Friday, June 5-Sunday, June 7. Motorists can expect 15-20 minute delays. Traffic will merge down to one lane both eastbound and westbound as equipment will be staged in the right hand travel lane. Speeds through the work zone will be reduced.
