Overnight closures of Fall River Road on-ramp to eastbound I-70 start Aug. 30

August 28, 2015 - Central/Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Milling and paving operations require closing.

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – As overnight milling and paving operations continue along eastbound I-70 through Clear Creek County to form the I-70 Mountain Corridor Express Lane, it is necessary to close the various on-ramps and off-ramps adjacent to where the work is occurring.

Overnight Sunday, Aug. 30, through Tuesday, Sept. 1, the Fall River Road on-ramp to eastbound I-70 (Exit 238) will be closed. This on-ramp is scheduled to close at 9 p.m. Sunday night and 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesdaynights and will re-open between 8 and 10 a.m. the next day. During these overnight closures, Fall River Road residents will need to go west on I-70 to enter eastbound I-70 at Dumont (Exit 235).

To date, crews have put down about 20,000 tons of asphalt along eastbound I-70 between mile markers 232 and 240 to widen the highway for a third, optional tolled express lane that can be used during peak travel periods. They have finished paving the inside lane along this eight-mile stretch and have moved their operations back to the west to continue milling and paving the middle and right lanes.

This work is being done in conjunction with the Peak Period Shoulder Lane Project that is upgrading 13 miles of eastbound I-70 from the Empire Junction to Idaho Springs. The express lane is scheduled to open by the end of this year, and when finished, drivers using the express lane will save nearly 30 minutes in travel time from the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels to the top of Floyd Hill.
