Lane closures on SB I-25, Speer Blvd. and 23rd Ave. for bridge work

October 23, 2015 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER - As part of the $3 million bridge rehabilitation project on Speer Boulevard and 23rd Avenue over I-25, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will require the following lane closures:

  • Northbound and southbound I-25 between Speer Blvd. and 23rd Ave. will require lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 25, through Thursday, Oct. 29. At times, there will be only one lane of travel open, so alternate routes are advised. These closures are required to protect the safety of drivers as bridge work is performed above the lanes of travel.
  • 23rd Ave. bridge will be reduced to one lane of travel with flaggers directing traffic at various times both day and night from Sunday, Oct. 25, through Friday, Oct. 30. Motorists should plan for delays in the area and pay attention to signage signaling closure information.
  • Eastbound and westbound Speer Blvd. bridge will be reduced to one lane  of travel at various times both day and night from Sunday, Oct. 25, through Thursday, Oct. 29, for paving operations. Motorists should plan for delays in the area and pay attention to signage signaling closure information.

"We understand the inconvenience these closures cause, but we are working diligently to get these important and weather-dependent repairs complete before winter weather sets in," said Paul Jesaitis, CDOT Region 1 Transportation Director. "We appreciate the patience of drivers in this area and we look forward to completing this project by the end of November."

Project Background

From June 2015 through November 2015, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Hamon Infrastructure will complete a $3 million bridge repair project on the two Speer Boulevard bridges and 23rd Avenue bridge over I-25. This project expands the bridge lifespan and provides better clearance under the arch bridge girders on southbound I-25.

Bridge rehabilitation includes joint elimination, waterproofing, frame leg encapsulation, door replacements, epoxy injections, minor widening of southbound I-25 with milling, resurfacing, restriping of these lanes, vertical clearance signage and striping on the girders.
