TRAVEL IMPACTS:
Westbound U.S. 6 closure - Sunday, Oct. 4, 10 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 5, 5 a.m.  To detour around this closure, westbound U.S. 6 traffic will use the off-ramp to southbound Wadsworth Boulevard, take westbound Alameda Avenue to northbound Kipling before returning to westbound U.S. 6.

BACKGROUND:
The replacement of the existing and structurally deficient bridge along U.S. 6 over Garrison Street started in January 2015 and will be completed in five phases. Three of the phases are for bridge demolition and reconstruction. In each phase, a section of the existing bridge will be demolished while a section of the new bridge is constructed. Three lanes in each direction on US 6 will be maintained at peak travel times throughout the project, but a series of shifts in the lanes will accompany each phase. Intermittent night work will result in lane closures.

The construction project will provide greater vertical sight distance on U.S. 6, improve drainage, widen lanes on both U.S. 6 and Garrison Street and improve sidewalks, signals, bike lanes, aesthetics and lighting under the bridge.

The City of Lakewood has been an important partner in the planning and development of this project, which is scheduled for completion in late 2015.

CDOT and the contractor team, led by Hamon Infrastructure, would like to remind motorists to slow down in the construction area. Fines will be doubled within the work zone.
