Clear Creek Ecological Restoration project near Georgetown halfway complete

April 30, 2018 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – In March 2018, the Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner Zak Dirt, Inc. began work on the $880,000 ecological restoration of a segment of Clear Creek by realigning a channel and completing associated floodplain grading and vegetation. This project occurs off the roadway, approximately 1.75 miles north of Georgetown. As of late-April 2018, the project is now 50 percent complete and on track to conclude by June 2018.

Over the past month, the team completed excavation of the new creek alignment and establishment of a new creek bank. The team will now begin work on creek realignment. This work could result in temporary short-term changes in the creek downstream, including higher or lower water levels and water discoloration. These changes will not affect the motoring public.

After the creek is realigned, crews will begin backfilling the existing creek and work on final stabilization within the work zone. When complete, this project will have repaired a section of Clear Creek that is in need of restoration to improve how and where the stream flows. It also affords the opportunity to mitigate any potential impacts future projects along the I-70 corridor may have, with the ability to create additional wetlands at this location to offset impacts.

TRAVEL IMPACTS

Work hours for the project will be Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with minimal traffic impacts occurring on Alvarado Road when materials are delivered and equipment is taken to and from the project site.
