Overnight closures of US 6 for tunnel repairs

May 31, 2019

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close US Highway 6 (US 6) between Colorado Highway 119 (CO 119) and Colorado Highway 93 (CO 93) nightly beginning Sunday, June 2 through Thursday, June 6  from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. The closures are to conduct emergency tunnel repair work as a result of recent tunnel inspections. The Federal Highway Administration mandates biennial tunnel inspections to ensure safe traveling through the tunnels.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

US 6 will be closed from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. June 2 through June 6. The closure schedule is weather dependent. Motorists will need to use Interstate 70 both east and westbound as an alternate route around the closures.

Access to Black Hawk and Central City is available by using the Central City Parkway (Exit 243) or by traveling east on Highway 6 (Exit 244) and then north on CO 119.

WHOLE SYSTEM. WHOLE SAFETY.

To heighten safety awareness, CDOT recently announced its Whole System — Whole Safety initiative. This project takes a systematic statewide approach to safety combining the benefits of CDOT’s programs that address driving behavior, our built environment and the organization's operations. The goal is to improve the safety of Colorado's transportation network by reducing the rate and severity of crashes and improving safety conditions for those traveling by all transportation modes. The program has one simple mission: to get everyone home safely.
