CO 402 at I-25 will reopen in its final configuration on Oct. 18 after 120-day closure

October 10, 2019 - Northeastern Colorado

LOVELAND/JOHNSTOWN In alignment with CDOT’s Whole System — Whole Safety campaign, the I-25 and Colorado Highway 402 interchange has undergone substantial changes to improve the safety for the traveling public.

The new and improved interchange that smooths out horizontal and vertical curves on I-25 and adds pedestrian and bike facilities on CO 402 will reopen late in the afternoon on Oct. 18, three days ahead of schedule. At that time, southbound on- and off-ramp traffic will use the recently constructed roundabout on the west side of I-25 on CO 402.

The new northbound on- and off-ramps will remain closed until the evening of Oct. 22. Traffic will continue to use the northbound I-25 off-ramp onto the SE Frontage Road and the northbound I-25 on-ramp at River Ranch Parkway. When traffic is switched to the new northbound I-25 on- and off-ramps, the SE Frontage Road, south of CO 402, will be reopened in both directions utilizing the new roundabout at County Road 18 and the SE Frontage Road.

PROJECT INFORMATION

The I-25 North Express Lanes: Johnstown to Fort Collins Project will increase capacity by adding an Express Lane in both directions, building all bridges and walls to accommodate the ultimate four-lane configuration of I-25. The project will also improve multimodal access to regional transit to promote mode shift, improve bus service performance by adding new bus slip ramps from I-25 to the new Park-n-Ride at Kendall Parkway, create new pedestrian and bicycle access under I-25 at Kendall Parkway and construct a new portion of trail under I-25 along the Cache la Poudre River, allowing for the future completion of the regional trail. The project is expected to be completed in 2023.

  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
  • Be patient!

WHOLE SYSTEM. WHOLE SAFETY.

To heighten safety awareness, CDOT recently announced its Whole System — Whole Safety initiative. This project takes a systematic statewide approach to safety combining the benefits of CDOT’s programs that address driving behaviors, our built environment and the organization's operations. The goal is to improve the safety of Colorado’s transportation network by reducing the rate and severity of crashes and improving the safety of all transportation modes. The program has one simple mission—to get everyone home safely.
