CDOT begins resurfacing project on I-70 from Georgetown to Empire

May 12, 2021 - Central/Eastern Colorado - Motorists can expect overnight lane closures on weeknights only

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY — Starting this week, the Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner, APC Construction, will begin resurfacing both directions of Interstate 70 from Georgetown to Empire during overnight hours. Work on this $4.5M project will improve driving conditions and safety along this three-mile stretch of I-70 including asphalt removal, asphalt paving, cleaning inlets, culverts, adjusting or replacing guardrail, roadway signing and re-striping. The project begins with the guardrail improvements and the resurfacing work will take place later in the summer. There will be no daytime lane closures. Traffic impacts will be weeknights only, with no work on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and holidays as well as no more than one lane closed at a time.

Travel Impacts

  • Work hours will take place overnight from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday – Thursday. No work is expected to take place Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights or on holidays.

  • Motorists can expect eastbound and westbound overnight single-lane closures and speed reductions during work hours. 

  • This project is expected to continue into late October. The schedule is subject to change and weather dependent.

  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.

  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.

  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.

  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.

  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.

  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.

  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.

  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
